Our new Habitat for Humanity Detroit toolbar is free to download and allows you to raise money for our cause every time you search or shop online! Once added to Internet Explorer or Firefox, each time you shop at more than 1,300 stores (from Amazon to Zazzle!) a percentage of your purchase will automatically be donated to Habitat for Humanity Detroit – at no cost to you (and you may even save money as the toolbar provides coupons and deals as well!). The toolbar also has a search box and each time you search the Internet, about a penny is donated to us – http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/habitat-for-humanity-detroit.
Please pass this along to all of your friends. The two minutes it takes to add this toolbar to your browser can make a lifetime of difference for our cause! Remember to continue to use the toolbar for searches or shopping and Habitat for Humanity Detroit will continue to receive funds from GoodSearch.

Habitat for Humanity Detroit is a non-profit Christian based housing ministry that is currently accepting bids for our upcoming 2010 build season. We are anticipating building a minimum of 15 houses in Detroit’s East side to serve area residents with low to moderate income levels.
To this end, we are seeking bids for the jobs needed to build these homes in 2010.
Copies of the prints and specifications for each of the 3 floor plans that we currently build are posted here. You will also find a copy of our Scopes of Work that will be used in the contract execution. Upon review, please submit a bid for each floor plan to include the following:
- Labor and materials cost to complete the activities highlighted in the Scopes of Work
- Labor only cost to complete the activities highlighted in the Scopes of Work
- Materials only cost to complete the activities highlighted in the Scopes of Work
- Cost justification worksheet to explain the various costs to complete the work for each plan
The source of funding for this project is the Federal government. These funds require that you also make strong efforts to hire people from the community where the project will be located. The goal is to have the funds also offer employment as well as housing opportunities to the areas that we serve. To help you with this process, we have identified a number of individuals with a variety of skill sets who currently live in the community and the surrounding area if you are unable to find workers from the area on your own.
Should you have any questions regarding this process, please contact Scott Losey, Construction Director: slosey@habitatdetroit.org or 313.377.2994

Recap (ReStore Certified Appliance Program)
The ReCap Story

Since opening in 2000, the ReStore has taken donations of used appliances and sold then at a nominal cost to the public. Profits from used appliance sales go to support Habitat for Humanity’s traditional home building programs. To provide increased financial support for affordable home construction and to provide greater value to ReStore customers, the ReStore Certified Appliance project, or ReCap, was introduced in June, 2009.
With the launch of ReCap, all appliances are processed through ReStore’s new Appliance Service Center. Once an appliance is processed through the ReCap program, the unit receives a serial number and is warranted for 6 months. There has never been a better time to a used appliance. That’s because all our appliances undergo a rigorous inspection process.
A ReCap appliance undergoes a 4-Step program:
- 19-Point Inspection
- Repair and Replace Parts as Needed
- Thorough Testing
- Cleaning
Don’t Dump it. Donate it. And Deduct it.
Donate your used Appliances to ReCap!
